ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. (Sept. 17, 2016) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's cross country team placed fourth in the Bard Raptors Invitational up in Dutchess County on Saturday out of a field of 20 teams. The Mariners totaled 110 points and were just two points behind fellow Skyline Conference rival Mount St. Mary who came in second place. Skyline powerhouse St. Joseph's (L.I.) won the meet with 84 points.
The Mariners were led by freshman Michael Dobkowski (Merrick, N.Y.), who came in 10th place (nine points) with a time of 27:40 on the 8K course. Sophomore James Gunderson (Bloomington, Minn.) was the second Mariner to cross the finish line in 28:28, which was good for 19th place (17 points) followed by freshman Joshua Sappington (Yorba Linda, Calif.), who placed 26th (24 points) with a time of 28:52.
Sophomore John Robertson (Pfafftown, N.C.) and freshman Jeff Attardi (Cedar Run, N.J.) rounded out the scoring for USMMA as Robertson placed 29th (27 points) in 29:05 and Attardi was 27th (33 points) in 29:39.

The Mariners return to action next Saturday, Sept. 24, when they travel up to Williamstown, Mass., to take part in the Purple Valley Classic hosted by Williams College.
