The USMMA men finished in dominating fashion securing four of the "Top 10" places on a slow, muddy and rain-drenched course at the fourth annual Purchase College Invitational on Saturday.
As overall meet winners, the men bested Division II Dowling College (second place) as well as Hunter College (third), Bard College, Mount Saint Mary's Purchase College, CIA, Duchess Community College, Lehman College, Sarah Lawrence and Bronx Community College.
"With the rough conditions it simply became about competing," cross country coach Greg Lott said. "We realized that fast times weren't going to come today on the sloppy course. Our guys just went out there and decided they were going to beat then man standing beside them. It was a great team effort. It was also the first experience at 8K for many of our guys so the experience was invaluable."
Freshman David McGowan led the way, finishing in second place overall (30:09) behind Dowling's Scott Litts. Freshhman Alex Megeff (seventh, 30:41), senior Logan Swan (eighth, 30:43), freshman Tomas Sanchez (10th, 31:10) and junior Mason Albaugh-Fonseca (11th,31:16) rounded out the "Top 5" scoring places for the Mariners.
The men will be in action at the C.W. Post Cross Country Invitational next Saturday in Brookville, N.Y. The meet will also serve as the preview event for the D-II ECC Championship and will be hosting the top D-II teams throughout the eastern region.
