BALTIMORE, Md. – On Saturday, the United States Merchant Marine Academy men's cross country squad finished sixth overall out of eight teams at the Landmark Conference Championships hosted by Goucher College in Baltimore, Md.

Individually, juniors Ross Whelpley (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) and Tom Fossa (Fleming Island, Fla.) finished in 29th and 30th place in the 8k run, respectively. The Mastic Beach native ran a 29:06.70, while Fossa crossed the finish line with a clocking of 29:10.50.

"Our entire squad has shown marked improvement throughout the year. The top three finishers on the men's side all ran season's best performances on a very challenging course and will all return next year," Head Coach Gregory Lott commented after the meet. "We have a lot to be excited about as we build for the future. With two races remaining on the schedule, I'm looking forward to seeing how our guys continue to develop."

Head Coach Gregory Lott and the Mariners return to action on Saturday when they compete in the ECAC Championships in Colt State Park, R.I.
