On the second and final day of the ECAC Outdoor Championship Meet, USMMA senior Austin MacElrevey (Lewis, Del.) concluded his extraordinary career as the Individual Champion in the 1500 meter run. MacElrevey helped lead the Mariners to a 14th place team finish out of the 24 teams that scored at the event. Merchant Marine ended up with 26 points. Wesley College won the ECAC Championship with a score of 93 points, while Penn State-Behrend (81 points) and Penn State-Harrisburg (73 points) rounded out the top three.
Four members of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s track & field team competed on the first day of the 2018 ECAC Outdoor Championships on Wednesday down at Johns Hopkins University. Through one day, the Mariners sit in seventh place out of the 20 teams that have scored thus far at the event with 16 points. Hosts Johns Hopkins leads the field with 35 points.
The USMMA men’s track & field team took part in the inaugural Skyline Conference Outdoor Championship Meet on Sunday, hosted by Farmingdale State College. The Mariners came in second place at the event with a total of 166 points. The host FSC Rams won the Skyline crown with 227.5 points.
It is with great sadness that United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) Athletic Department shares the news of Bill "Coach O" Omeltchenko‘s passing. The Hall of Fame Track & Field Coach and long-time professor died peacefully earlier this week, at age 88.
The USMMA men’s track & field team hosted the annual Coach Omeltchenko Invitational at Brooks Stadium on Senior Day Sunday. Prior to the meet, the Mariners welcomed back one of Coach O’s most decorated runners as a special guest, multiple program record holder and NCAA Qualifier and two-time All-American Chris Keane ’87.
The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s track & field team competed in the Queensborough Relays on Saturday at Queensborough Community College. The Mariners had two ECAC Qualifying Marks hit at the event and one Academy record fell as well.
The Skyline Conference has added outdoor track & field to its championship offerings for the first time in 2018 and with that comes weekly awards and the league announced on Monday that USMMA senior Austin MacElrevey (Lewes, Del.) was named the first ever Skyline Outdoor Track & Field Track Athlete of the Week. The recognition comes after MacElrevey’s performances in the season-opening TCNJ Invitational this past weekend.

This weekend, three throwers from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s track & field team competed at the 2018 ECAC Indoor Championship Meet at the Armory in Manhattan. The three Mariners – senior Ian Stoner (Glen Allen, Va.), junior David Collins (North Kingstown, R.I.) and freshman Ivan Goretoy (West Warwick, R.I.) – all qualified for the two-day meet by hitting qualifications marks in their respective events throughout the 2017-18 indoor season.
On Wednesday, the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced that USMMA senior Ian Stoner (Glen Allen, Va.) and freshman Ivan Goretoy (West Warwick, R.I.) were selected as the league’s weekly award winners for men’s track & field for the week ending Feb. 11. Stoner earned ECAC DIII Metro Field Athlete of the Week honors, while Goretoy was named the ECAC DIII Metro Rookie of the Week.

The Mariners had a total of seven top-10 individual finishes at the event, including wins by freshman Ivan Goretoy (West Warwick, R.I.) in the weight throw and senior Austin MacElrevey (Lewes, Del.) in the 3000 meter run.
The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s track & field team competed at East Stroudsburg University’s DeSchriver Invitational on Saturday in Pennsylvania. The Mariners had three top-10 finishes on the day, including senior Austin MacElrevey (Lewes, Del.) with the squad’s best finish – a fourth-place finish in the 5000 meter run.
USMMA senior Ian Stoner (Glen Allen, Va.) hit a mark of 14.46 meters in the shot put, which was good enough for an ECAC Qualification, to lead the USMMA men’s track & field team at the McElligott Invite, hosted by Haverford College on Saturday. The Mariners had a total of six top-five finishes on the day and finished in fifth place (47.5 points) out of the seven-team field of teams that scored.
U.S. Merchant Marine Academy freshman Ivan Goretoy (West Warwick, R.I.) was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Metro Track & Field Rookie of the Week for the week ending Dec. 7, the conference announced on Wednesday. The honor comes after Goretoy’s performance in the Wagner Invitational this past Friday in Staten Island.
On Friday, the USMMA men’s track & field team competed in the Wagner Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Park Complex. The Mariners had four top-20 finishes at the event, including an ECAC qualifying mark hit by freshman Ivan Goretoy (West Warwick, R.I.).
The USMMA men’s track & field team competed in its first meet of the 2017-18 indoor season on Saturday night, the TCNJ Invite held at the Armory in Manhattan. The Mariners had two first-place finishes and a total of five finishes in the top-five.
This past Friday night, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Athletics Department inducted 10 new members into its Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony was held in conjunction with the Academy’s and the USMMA Alumni Association and Foundation’s (AAF) Homecoming celebration this weekend. The Alumni Association and Foundation hosted the event in Melville Hall on campus here in Kings Point.
The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy held its 2017 Awards Convocation on Friday morning at the Ackerman Auditorium as part of Graduation Weekend festivities. Four major athletic award winners were announced during the ceremony – the Male and Female Athletes of the Year as well as the two Coaches of the Year – along with a number of other athletic awards and honors.
The Landmark Conference announced late last month the league’s All-Decade Team for men’s outdoor track & field and two former USMMA standouts represent the Academy on the prestigious list – Christopher Cook and Tomas Sanchez ’16. The All-Decade Team was selected by the current Landmark Conference head track & field coaches.
On Saturday, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s track & field team concluded the 2017 outdoor season at St. John’s University’s Tom Farrell Classic. The Mariners were led by senior Daniel Wolfer (Hebron, Ky.) and junior Blase Neumann (Spokane, Wash.), who both picked up second-place finishes at the event.
The USMMA track & field teams hosted the annual Coach Omeltchenko Invitational on Sunday at Brooks Stadium. Prior to the event getting underway full-swing, the program held a special Senior Day Ceremony to honor their four graduating seniors – Cameron Green (Lancaster, Calif.), Conor McWeeney (Lake Oswego, Ore.), Daniel Wolfer (Hebron, Ky.) and Mary Catherine Zehnder (Carle Place, N.Y.).
The Landmark Conference announced its All-Decade Team for indoor track & field last week and former USMMA standout Tomas Sanchez ’16 was selected by the Landmark coaches to one of the 20 spots on the team.
On Saturday, the USMMA men’s track & field team competed at the St. Joseph’s Winter Invitational, hosted by St. Joseph’s of Long Island at St. Anthony’s High School. As a team, the Mariner men finished in 12th place at the event with 10 points.
