The six U.S. Merchant Marine Academy spring teams garnered a total of 23 student-athletes, collectively, on the Landmark Conference Spring Honor Roll, the league announced on Tuesday morning. In total, 418 student-athletes received recognition from the conference’s nine institutions.

The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s track & field team hosted the Coach Omelchenko Invitational on Sunday at Brooks Stadium. Before the event started, the Mariners paid tribute to their four graduating seniors with a special Senior Day Ceremony - Michael Dittmer (Clifton Park, N.Y.), Kenneth Pressey (Yorktown, Va.), Nathan Robbins (Los Alamos, N.M.) and Tomas Sanchez (Manati, P.R.).

The USMMA men’s track & field team came in 10th place at the CGA Spring Invite on Saturday, hosted by arch-rival Coast Guard. The Mariners, who racked up 24 points on the day, had six top-10 finishes at the event, including a second-place showing by senior Tomas Sanchez (Manati, P.R.) in the 400 meter run.

Earlier this month, the Landmark Conference announced that 309 winter student-athletes from the league were named to the conference’s Academic Honor Roll. USMMA placed 20 midshipmen on the list, including at least one from five different winter teams.

Sanchez Qualifies For ECACs To Highlight Mariners’ Day At Lehigh’s Covert Classic
The USMMA men’s track & field team took part in the John Covert Classic on Saturday, hosted by Division I Lehigh University. The Mariners sent 16 competitors to the event and were led by senior Tomas Sanchez (Manati, P.R.), who had the squad’s highest finish of the day and qualified for the ECAC Championships with a second-place showing in the 500 meter run in 1:07.56. He was narrowly beaten out by Lehigh’s Tom Troxell by just seven-hundredths of a second.

Pressey’s First-Place Finish In Triple Jump Highlights Mariners Day At CGA Winter Invite
The USMMA men’s track & field team competed at Coast Guard’s CGA Winter Invite on Saturday and the Mariners ended the event in fifth place. Senior Kenneth Pressey (Yorktown, Va.) had the Mariners’ top finish at the event, coming in first place in the triple jump with a jump of 12.77 meters (41' 10.75"), which was a personal best distance for the senior.

The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s track & field team took on a tough field of mostly Division I teams at the Rutgers Invitational on Saturday. 10 Mariners made the trip to Jersey for the event, with freshman Severin Blenkush () leading the way with the squad’s top finish – a fifth-place showing in the 1,000 meter run (2:36.67), which was a season-best time for him.

Five New Members Inducted Into USMMA Athletics Hall Of Fame Friday Night
This past Friday night, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Athletics Department inducted five new members into its Hall of Fame as part of its 16th class to be included. The induction ceremony was in conjunction with the Academy’s and the USMMA Alumni Association and Foundation’s (AAF) Homecoming celebration this past weekend. The Alumni Association and Foundation hosted the event in Melville Hall on campus here in Kings Point.

On Saturday, freshman Blase Neumann (Spokane, Wash.) placed second in the pole vault event on the first day of the Landmark Outdoor Track & Field Championship Meet, hosted by Susquehanna University. His mark of 4.40 meters (14’ 5.25”) also qualifies him for the ECAC Championship Meet, which will be held May 14-15 in Springfield, Mass.

Men’s 4 x 100 Meter Relay Team Qualifies for ECAC Outdoor Championships
SWARTHMORE, Pa. – On Saturday, the United States Merchant Marine Academy men’s outdoor track & field squad competed at a very high caliber “Last Chance Meet” at Swarthmore College in Swarthmore, Pa. The meet consisted of athletes from Divisions I, II and III trying to hit qualifying marks for the ECAC and national championships. Various post-collegiate athletes also took part in the competition.

With 16-Point Improvement From Last Year, Men’s Track & Field Matches Best-Ever Finish at Landmark Outdoor Championships
HUNTINGDON, Pa. – This weekend, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s outdoor track and field team traveled to Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pa. to compete in the 2011 Landmark Conference Championships. With a 16-point improvement from last year, the USMMA men’s track & field team matched its best ever finish at the Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships by placing fourth overall.

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s track and field team began their 2011 outdoor season with a strong showing in the non-scoring event at West Point. In spite of some very brutal conditions that affected the times for all the participants involved.

Men’s 4 x 200 Meter Relay Team Competes at ECAC Indoor Champs.
NEW YORK, N.Y. – On Saturday, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s indoor track and field squad sent its 4 x 200 meter relay team of senior Brandon Barrett (Kingwood, Texas), junior Hunter Karass (Marlboro, N.J.), and rookies Tyler McDaniel (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Mickel McGann (Ocala, Fla.) to the ECAC Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Armory in New York City. The foursome finished 21st overall with a clocking of 1:33.21.

Men’s Track & Field Notch Program's Best-Ever Landmark Finish
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – On Saturday, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s indoor track and field team finished in third place at the 2011 Landmark Conference Championships at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pa., which marks the program’s best finish ever. The Mariners accumulated a total of 67 points at the meet.
