BALTIMORE (May 16, 2018) – Four members of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's track & field team competed on the first day of the 2018 ECAC Outdoor Championships on Wednesday down at Johns Hopkins University. Through one day, the Mariners sit in seventh place out of the 20 teams that have scored thus far at the event with 16 points. Hosts Johns Hopkins leads the field with 35 points.
Senior Austin MacElrevey (Lewes, Del.) had USMMA's best result of the day, as he came in second place in the 5000 meter run with a time of 15:31.07. That was good for eight points towards the Mariners' team score.
Freshman Ivan Goretoy (West Warwick, R.I.) and junior David Collins (North Kingstown, R.I.) also earned points for Merchant Marine in the hammer throw. Goretoy's mark of 47.76 meters (156' 08") was good for fourth place and five points, while Collins' toss of 46.51 meters (152' 07") placed sixth and added three points towards' the Mariners' score. Senior Ian Stoner (Glen Allen, Va.) also competed in the hammer and came in 18th with a throw of 37.69 meters (123' 08").
