NEW YORK (Feb. 9, 2018) – The USMMA men's track & field team competed at the NYU Invitational on Friday at the Armory Track & Field Center in Manhattan and had a total of five top-10 finishes on the day.
Senior Ian Stoner (Glen Allen, Va.) had the Mariners' top placement at the meet as he came in third in the shot put with a toss of 14.14 meters (46' 4.75").
In the weight throw, junior David Collins (North Kingstown, R.I.) placed fifth with a 15.05-meter toss (49' 4.50"), which qualifies him for the ECAC Championships, and freshman Ivan Goretoy (West Warwick, R.I.) finished sixth with a throw of 14.89 meters (48' 10.25").
Goretoy also came in 10th place in the shot put after his toss of 13.17 meters (43' 2.50"). Sophomore Zachary Polliard (Brighton, Colo.) rounded out Merchant Marine's top-10 finishers with a 10th-place showing in the long jump with a leap of 6.04 meters (19' 9.75").
Up next, the Mariners will compete in the St. Joseph's-L.I. Winter Invitational this Sunday, Feb. 11. The event will take place at St. Anthony's High School in South Huntington, N.Y. and will begin at 10 a.m. Live results for the meet will be available at this link.
