NEW YORK (Dec. 2, 2017) – The USMMA men's track & field team competed in its first meet of the 2017-18 indoor season on Saturday night, the TCNJ Invite held at the Armory in Manhattan. The Mariners had two first-place finishes and a total of five finishes in the top-five.
Senior Ian Stoner (Glen Allen, Va.) came in first in the shot put with a toss of 13.85 meters (45 feet, 5.25 inches) and freshman Ivan Goretoy (West Warwick, R.I.) won the weight throw event, reaching 14.88 meters (48 feet, 10 inches) with his throw.
Senior Austin MacElrevey (Lewes, Del.) came in third place in the men's mile with a time of 4:37.83, junior David Collins (North Kingstown, R.I.) placed third in the weight throw (13.92m / 45 feet, 8 inches) and senior Billy Pelger (Rocky River, Ohio) came in fourth place in the shot put (12.49m / 40 feet, 11.75 inches).
Up next, the Mariners will take part in the Wagner Invitational on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018. The event will take place at the Ocean Breeze Park Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.
