KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 23, 2017) – The USMMA track & field teams hosted the annual Coach Omeltchenko Invitational on Sunday at Brooks Stadium. Prior to the event getting underway full-swing, the program held a special Senior Day Ceremony to honor its four graduating seniors – Cameron Green (Lancaster, Calif.), Conor McWeeney (Lake Oswego, Ore.), Daniel Wolfer (Hebron, Ky.) and Mary Catherine Zehnder (Carle Place, N.Y.).

Both the men's and women's teams finished in second place out of the four teams that scored at the meet. The women picked up 150 points throughout the day, second only to St. Joseph's of Long Island, which won with 197 points. On the men's side, the Mariners scored 141 points and finished behind Farmingdale State, which grabbed first place with 253 points.

Three Academy records were broken on the day – two on the women's side and one men's.

Both 4x1500 meter relay teams set new USMMA bests to start the day. The women's squad of Zehnder, freshmen Anna Lewis (Lakehead, Calif.) and Carissa Buonerba (Atlanta, Ga.) and sophomore Kelsey Ramirez (Stevensville, Mich.) came in first place with a time of 22:14.29. For the men, the team of freshman Michael Dobkowski (Merrick, N.Y.) with all three seniors – Green, McWeeney and Wolfer – won in 17:34.75.

Junior Alex Miller (Stevensville, Mich.) also set a new women's 400 meter outdoor record, beating her own record time of 1:01.33 that she set back in 2015, with a first-place showing in 1:01.25 – just eight-tenths of a second ahead of the old mark.

The Mariner men got a total of four first-place finishes on the day – the 4x1500, Green in the 800m (2:02.57), junior Blase Neumann (Spokane, Wash.) in the pole vault (4.17m – 13' 8.25") and the 4x800 relay of Green, sophomore Severin Blenkush (O'Fallon, Ill.), Dobkowski and sophomore John Robertson (Pfafftown, N.C.) with a time of 8:46.76

On the women's side there were a total of five first place finishes – the 4x1500, Miller in the 400m, freshman Valerie Bowman (Newark, Ohio) in the 3000m steeplechase (13:27.65), classmate Ally McFadyen (Saint James, N.Y.) in the discus (31.22m – 102' 5") and the 4x400m relay of freshmen Alexa Vandermeer (Grove Heights, Minn.) and Kaleigh D'Arcy (White Plains, N.Y.) with Lewis and Miller with a time of 4:26.54.

The Mariners are back in action next Saturday, April 29, at TCNJ's Lions' Invitational in Ewing, N.J.
