MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (Feb. 6, 2016) – The USMMA men's and women's track & field teams traveled up to Wesleyan University to compete in the Second Wesleyan Indoor Invite. The men had two first-place finishes, while the women had a runner finish as high as fourth place.
Senior Tomas Sanchez (Manati, P.R.) won the 400-meter run in 51.60 out of a field of 25 runners, while freshman Severin Blenkush (O'Fallon, Ill.) came in first in the 800-meter run in 2:01.24 out of 22 competitors.
Freshman Connor Cole (Alpharetta, Ga.) placed third in the 4:43.51, while senior Kenneth Pressey (Yorktown, Va.) came in third in the high jump with a leap of 1.86 meters (6' 1.25") and fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 12.16 meters (39' 10.75") and sophomore Seung Hwang (Wayne, N.J.) placed fifth in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.11 seconds.
On the women's side, freshman Kelsey Ramirez (Stevensville, Mich.) came in fourth in the 800-meter run out of 27 runners in 2:32.81. Sophomore Kaylee Kilbert (Canfield, Ohio) placed 11th in the same event with a time of 2:38.11.
The Mariners return to action next weekend when they take part in two events. They'll go to the Lions Invite, hosted by Molloy at St. Anthony's High School in Huntington, N.Y. on Friday, Feb. 12, and the Monmouth Winter Collegiate Open in West Long Branch, N.J., on Saturday.
