USMMA Sits Fourth after Day One of Landmark Conference Championships

Kings Point, NY – The USMMA track & field program completed day one of the 2014 Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships with nine points on the men's side and are in fourth-place.  Mark Shelley (Landisburg, PA) supplied the top USMMA performance on the day by earning bronze in the pole vault.  Shelley cleared 3.35 meters to take third-place and give the Mariners six points.

Pete Tolles (Clontarf, MN) scored the Mariners first points of the meet with a seventh-place finish in the javelin.  The sophomore posted a mark of 43.60 meters as USMMA sat in fourth-place after the first three events.  Giovanni Sessoms (Alpharetta, GA) captured eighth-place in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 36.28 meters.

Mickel McGann (Ocala, FL) was the Mariners top qualifier for tomorrow's finals as he will enter the 100-meter dash final seeded second.  The sophomore sprinter won his heat on Saturday with a time of 11.04 seconds.  Thomas Routt (Elliott City, MD) posted a time of 51.77 seconds in the 400-meter dash as the senior will be the third-seed in Sunday's race for gold.

Daniel Wolfer (Hebron, KY) just missed scoring points for the Mariners in the 1,500 meter run as he took ninth with a time of 4:15.15. 

On the women's side, Mary Zehnder (Carle Place, NY) also placed ninth in the 1,500-meter run as she crossed the tape in 5:18.86.
