West Point, NY - The United States Merchant Marine Academy men's track and field team put on a strong performance to open their indoor season at the Crowell Open in West Point, NY. The meet included very strong competition from D-I, D-II and D-III schools, as well as elite track clubs. Teams competing included Army, Zenith Velocity, Medgar Evers College, Cobleskill College, and Mount Saint Mary College among others.
In the mile, freshman Daniel Wolfer (Hebron, KY) ran 4:38.44, placing tenth overall in a field of 24 runners.
The standout performance of the day for Merchant Marine came from their 4x800m relay team of Rogers, Wolfer, Green, and freshman Conor Mcweeney (Lake Oswego, OR) who placed first with a time of 8:30.23. The Mariners dominated the race, beating military academy rival Army by 4 seconds.

Freshman Tristan Sess (Center Moriches, NY) ran the 500m in 1:15.56.
Freshman Mark Shelley (Landisburg, PA) vaulted a 3.35m in the pole vault. Shelley also ran the 60m in 8.19.
Freshman Timothy Pamlanye (Ronkokma, NY) ran 57.00 in the 400m.
Senior Krzysztof Nowacki (Aurora, CO) ran 58.89 in the 400m and 26.51 in the 200m.
Pamlanye, Sess, Nowacki, and senior Thomas Routt (Elliot City, MD) placed 9th overall in the 4x400m with a time of 3:50.35.
The men's track team will have a month to prepare for their next meet, as they will participate in the NYC Gotham Cup in New York, NY on January 10th.
