A Pair of USMMA Runners Named Track Performers of the Week

Kings Point, NY -- The United States Merchant Marine Academy track and field teams earned a pair of Landmark Conference track athlete of the week honors for their performance at the Coast Guard Tri-meet this past weekend in New London, CT.

Senior Gretchen Holoubek (Saverna Park, MD), won the one mile run by over five seconds with a time of 5:33.23 which converts to 5:32.20 on a 180m track; the fastest one mile run by a female Mariner since 2005.  Her mark also landed her the top spot so far this season in the Landmark Conference, and bests her personal record by 17 seconds.  It also places her seventh all-time on the academy list, behind only Callie Beeler '05 and Chrissy Anderson '02 who combine to hold the top six spots.

Freshman Dylan Tack (Coupeville, WA), ran the 600m in 1:26.69, which converts to a time of 1:25.92 on a 180m track. The mark was good enough to grab the first ECAC qualifying time for the Mariners this season, as well as the eighth spot on USMMA's all-time list.

The Mariners continue their indoor track and field season when they head to Middletown, CT for the Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 19.
