KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 13, 2019) – After an hour-and-a-half delay to let the courts dry after a torrential downpour during the middle of the night, the USMMA tennis team eventually swept visiting Skyline Conference opponent Sarah Lawrence College, 9-0, on Saturday at the Brooks Stadium Courts. The victory snaps the Mariners' three-match losing streak and moves their record to 5-3 (3-2 Skyline), while the Gryphons fall to 1-3 (1-3 Skyline) in defeat.

The Mariners took all three doubles flights, with the #3 pairing of senior Madeline Smith (Mesa, Ariz.) and freshman John Guettlein (Arvada, Colo.) starting things off with an 8-0 victory, before senior Branden Deeter (Truckee, Calif.) and junior Blaine Mueller (Meridian, Mass.) took an 8-2 decision at #2. USMMA's top flight of senior Daniel Zakrevski (Forest Hills, N.Y.) and junior Justin McGaffigan (Quincy, Mass.) completed the sweep with an 8-3 win.

In singles action, quick wins at #3 by Deeter (8-0) and at #5 by Mueller (6-0, 6-0) clinched the match victory for Merchant Marine. Senior William Peterson (Midlothian, Va.) took his match at #6 by the final of 6-0, 6-0, before Guettlein won 6-2, 6-2, at #4.
