PURCHASE, N.Y. (April 6, 2019) – The USMMA tennis team lost its first match of the year on Saturday up at Skyline opponent Purchase College by the final score of 6-3. The setback drops the Mariners' record to 4-1 (2-1 Skyline), while the Panthers improve to 5-0 (2-0 Skyline) in victory.
PC led 2-1 after doubles action, as Merchant Marine's lone win came at #2 by the pairing of senior Branden Deeter (Truckee, Calif.) and freshman Connor Campbell (Colorado Springs, Colo.), who triumphed 8-1.
In singles action, the first three flights to go final (#4, #6 and #1) all went in favor of the hosts, as the Panthers quickly clinched the win. Campbell won his #3 matchup, 6-3, 6-3, and fellow freshman John Guettlein (Arvada, Colo.) closed out the day with a 2-6, 6-0, 6-3 comeback win at #5.

The Mariners are back in action this afternoon with a home match against Skyline opponent St. Joseph's-Brooklyn beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the Brooks Stadium Courts.
