Tennis Falls To Coast Guard On The Road On Tuesday

NEW LONDON, Conn. (March 27, 2018) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy tennis team lost its rivalry match to Coast Guard, 8-1, on Tuesday afternoon. In defeat, the Mariners fall to 2-5 on the season, while the Bears improve to 3-0. 

USMMA's lone point came at #1 doubles, where the freshman duo of Andrew Carey (Moseley, Va.) and Barry Booth (Spanish Fort, Ala.) defeated their opponents, junior Tom Hackett and sophomore Adam Bahney, by the score of 8-4. 

In singles action, both Carey at #2 and Booth at #3 went to decisive third sets, but narrowly lost to their counterparts from Coast Guard.

Up next, the Mariners will make-up their Skyline match against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn that was postponed last week due to the snow storm. The Bears will host USMMA on Thursday night, March 29, at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing with the first serve scheduled for 7 p.m.
