Tennis Selected To Compete In ECAC Tournament For Second Straight Season

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (May 10, 2016) – For the second straight year, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy tennis team has been selected to play in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship Tournament, the  league announce on Monday. The event will take place this Saturday and Sunday, May 14-15, at Arcadia University in Glenside, Pa.

The Mariners ended the regular season with a 7-5 overall record, including a 4-4 mark in Landmark Conference action, which was good for a tie for fifth place in the league. They have earned the #2 seed in the ECAC Tournament and will take on the hosts, #3 Arcadia, on Saturday. The winner will move on to the ECAC Championship match on Sunday, while the loser will play in the third-place match, also on Sunday.

Arcadia enters the ECAC Tournament with an 11-11 record and went 5-2 in MAC Commonwealth Conference action. The Knights reached the MAC Commonwealth Championship match as the #3 seed in the league playoffs, but lost to #1 seed Messiah College this past Saturday.

The other semifinal match this Saturday will feature #1 seed Moravian, which defeated USMMA in the 2015 ECAC Tournament title match, against #4 seed Stevenson. The Moravian Greyhounds' come into this weekend's action with a 12-6 overall record (4-4 Landmark), while the Stevenson Mustangs sit at 12-7 (6-1 MAC Commonwealth).

Starting times for all four matches this weekend have yet to be announced, but will be available on the USMMA Tennis Schedule Page later this week.
