Tennis Edged By Moravian, 5-4, Sunday At Home

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 10, 2016) – On Sunday, the USMMA tennis team lost its home Landmark Conference match to Moravian College, 5-4, at the Brooks Stadium Courts. In defeat, the Mariners fall to 4-2 (2-1 Landmark), while the Greyhounds improve to 8-4 (2-2 Landmark) with the victory.

Moravian took two of the three doubles flights (#1 and #3) to start the match with a 2-1 lead. The lone Mariner victory came at #2, where the duo of junior Josh Levitas (Huntingtown, Md.) and freshman Daniel Zakrevski (Queens, N.Y.) defeated the Greyhounds' Giovanni Lombardi and C.J. Widdifield, 8-3.

The visitors won the first three singles matchups that finished at #2, #5 and #1 to clinch the match. Merchant Marine picked up wins at #6 by junior Jordan Kendall (Winter Haven, Fla.), 6-4, 6-4, at #3 by Zakrevski, 6-4, 6-4 and at #4 by Levitas, who came back after dropping the first set 6-3 to triumph in the next two, 6-0, 7-6 (7-1 in the tiebreaker).

The Mariners are back at it next Saturday, April 16, when they travel to Scranton to take on the Royals in a Landmark Conference match. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Scranton's Royal Courts at DeNaples Fields.
