Kings Point, NY - The USMMA tennis team closed out the 2014 campaign with a 5-4 victory over Pratt on Senior Day.  Before the match, the Mariners honored its three graduating players: Tanner Nestler (Asheville,  NC), Gabriel Castillo (Panama City, Panama), and Derek Acuna (Bainbridge Island, WA).  The win gave USMMA  its fifth triumph of the 2014 season, finishing with three more wins than last year.

James Hicks (Haddon Heights, NJ) completed his stellar freshman season with a 6-1, 6-3 rout of John Imamoglu at #1 singles.  Hicks finishes the year with a team best 9-3 record at singles.  Geri Villan (Yonkers, NY) secured her point at #3 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over the Cannoners' Fan Mo.  Villan rounds out the year with a 6-5 mark at #3 singles as she took on male competition all season.

The match would ultimately come down to a three-set battle at #4 singles.  Karl Sasse (Frederick, MD) took the first set against Eli Eskenazi, 6-2, before dropping the second set, 6-3.  The freshman would make it a happy senior day by dominating the third set, 6-1, and nailing down the 5-4 victory for USMMA (5-7).  Sasse finished his rookie season with an 8-4 record at #4 singles.  Pratt (3-4) was forced to forfeit at both #6 singles and #3 doubles.
