Kings Point, NY - The USMMA tennis team nearly picked up its second Landmark Conference win of the season Saturday afternoon but fell to Goucher, 5-4.  Karl Sasse (Frederick, MD) earned a 6-1, 7-5 decision at fourth singles and teamed up with Jack Walsh (Glen Allen, VA) in an 8-1 rout for the Mariners at #2 doubles.  James Hicks (Haddon Heights, NJ) continued his strong freshman season with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 verdict over Seth Hoesman at #1 singles.

U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (4-5, 1-4 Landmark) also got a victory from Walsh at #5 singles in a three-set battle in which rookie claimed the win, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1.  Geri Villan (Yonkers, NY) suffered a close 3-6, 5-7 setback at #3 singles while the Gophers won comfortable at second and sixth singles.

Goucher (5-11, 1-4 Landmark) needed just three of the singles points after earning wins at #1 and #3 doubles.  The closest doubles match came at the top of the score sheet with Hoesman and David Spivey edging out Hicks and Villan, 8-5.  

The USMMA tennis team returns to the court tomorrow for another Landmark Conference clash as they travel to Scranton.
