KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Dec. 4, 2018) – On Monday, the Skyline Conference announced that a trio of student-athletes from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's swimming & diving team earned weekly honors for their performances in the TCNJ Invitational this past weekend. Sophomore Gillem McMillan (Knoxville, Tenn.) was named the Skyline Diver of the Week, freshman Matthew Mizell (Merritt Island, Fla.) was selected as the league's Rookie of the Week and senior Christopher Kahl (Solomons, Md.) earned a spot on the weekly honor roll.
McMillan came in second place in both the one-meter drive and three-meter dive events at the TCNJ Invite. His one-meter dive score of 434.05 attained on Sunday was an NCAA Qualifying mark, his first on that board this season. The sophomore now needs to hit an NCAA mark just one more time on either board the rest of the season to qualify for NCAA Regionals. McMillan also scored 422.95 on the three-meter board on Saturday.
Mizell had two top-eight finishes this past weekend, coming in sixth in both the 100 backstroke (54.59) and the 200 back (2:00.15). He also came in 11th place in the 200 freestyle (1:48.64) and 14th in 500 free (4:56.55).
Kahl had the Mariners' lone first-place finish and tied for the team-high with three top-eight finishes at the three-day TCNJ Invite. He won the 200 backstroke in 1:53.81, while also coming in second in the 100 back in 52.52 and eighth in the 200 individual medley in 1:59.34.
