Korengel, Curry & Kim Lead Mariner Divers At NYU Invitational This Weekend

NEW YORK (Feb. 10, 2019) – The USMMA men's & women's divers competed in the diving portion of the NYU Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Mariners were led by juniors Kara Korengel (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Thomas Curry (Los Angeles, Calif.), who both hit NCAA Qualifying Marks on both the one- and three- meter boards at the event, and freshman Calvin Kim (Bellevue, Wash.), who made the cut in the one-meter dive. 

On Friday night, Korengel posted a score of 412.14 in the one-meter dive (11 dives) – well ahead of the NCAA cut of 395. Then on Saturday, she scored a 430.43 from the three-meter board (11 dives), which bested the NCAA cut of 410. 

Curry compiled a score of 463.51 in the three-meter dive (11 dives) on Friday night – ahead of the NCAA cut score of 440, and the finished the meet on Saturday with a great score of 483.52 on the one-meter board (11 dives), which was better than the cut of 425. 

Also on Saturday, Kim scored a 428.10 in the one-meter dive (11 dives) to surpass the qualification mark. 

All three of the Mariner divers now have to hit the NCAA Qualifying Mark one more time on these boards before the regular season is over in order to join freshman Gillem McMillan (Knoxville, Tenn.) at the NCAA Diving Regionals later this month.

The Mariner swimmers & divers return to action next weekend, Feb. 16-18, when they take part in the 2018 Metropolitan Conference Championship Meet at Rutgers University in Piscataway, N.J. For more information on that meet, click here
