NEW YORK (Jan. 12, 2018) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's swimming & diving team lost its road non-conference meet at the #6 team in the nation, NYU, on Friday night at the Violets' Palladium Athletic Facility by the final score of 137-101. In defeat, the Mariners fall to 4-2 on the season, while NYU improves to 4-0.
USMMA finished first in four events on the night. Three freshmen had individual victories – Gillem McMillan (Knoxville, Tenn.) won the three-meter dive with a score of 304.65, Jack Welch (Chesapeake, Va.) touched first in the 50 freestyle in 21.70 and Daniel Moore (Riverview, Fla.) placed first in the 100 free with a time of 47.82.
Moore also led off the Mariners' 200 free relay team with senior Jordan Weaver (Olive Branch, Miss.), junior Matheus Macedo (Elk Grove, Calif.) and sophomore Maximilian Haubrich (Grayslake, Ill.) that won in 1:27.01.

The Mariners are back in action tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 13, when they travel up to Newburgh, N.Y., to take on Skyline Conference opponent Mount St. Mary College. First event is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Knights' Kaplan Center Pool.
