KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Nov. 9, 2017) – On Wednesday, the Skyline Conference revealed the Preseason Coaches' Poll for men's and women's swimming & diving and both USMMA squads were picked by the league's head coaches to repeat as Skyline Champions this season.
The Mariner men claimed all six first place votes and led all teams with 36 points. SUNY Maritime (31 points) and Mount St. Mary (26 points) rounded out the top three.
The same occurred on the women's side, as all seven other head coaches gave their first place vote to Merchant Marine. The Mariners finished with 49 points in the poll, while Mount St. Mary (41 points) and Sarah Lawrence (38 points) were second and third, respectively.

The 2017-18 schedules were also released this week by 17th-year head coach Sean Tedesco. The slate features a total of 14 events, including four home events for the men and five for the women.
The season gets underway on Saturday, Nov. 18, when the Mariners host the annual USMMA Memorial Invitational at the O'Hara Hall Pool. The two teams will then compete next at the TCNJ Invitational in Ewing, N.J., the weekend of Dec. 1-3.
On Friday, Dec. 8, Merchant Marine will travel out to Old Westbury for a Skyline meet against the Panthers, with the women also swimming against conference opponent St. Joseph's of Long Island. The two squads will then welcome in Sarah Lawrence and Purchase for a Skyline "double dual" the very next day, Saturday, Dec. 9, which will serve as the last event of the calendar year.
2018 begins with another conference home meet, this against St. Joseph's of Brooklyn on Wednesday, Jan. 10. After that, the men will travel to Manhattan to take on perennial powerhouse NYU on Friday, Jan. 12.
Both the men and women will join up once again to travel up to Newburgh, N.Y., for a Skyline dual meet against Mount St. Mary on Saturday, Jan. 13. Only the women will compete in a mid-week matchup following that meet, as the Mariners will welcome in the Hunter College women on Tuesday, Jan. 16.
The annual showdown against arch-rival Coast Guard is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 20, at the O'Hara Hall Pool where the two teams from both Academies will be vying for their respective points in the 2017-18 Superintendents' Trophy race. Before the meet, the Mariners will honor their graduating seniors with a special Senior Day Ceremony.
The 2018 Skyline Championship Meet will take place on Jan. 27-28 at Purchase College up in Westchester County. Both the Mariner men and women will be vying for a repeat as Conference Champions, with the men seeking their 17th-straight league title under Coach Tedesco and 20th-straight overall.
From there, the final dual meet of the season is up next at Rowan University on Saturday, Feb. 3. On Friday, Feb. 9 and Saturday, Feb. 10, the Mariner divers from both squads will travel into New York City once again to take part in the NYU Invitational. That will be followed by the teams' annual trip to Rutgers University in New Jersey for the three-day Metropolitan Championship Meet the weekend of Feb. 16-18.
The NCAA Division III Diving Regional event is scheduled for March 2-3 at a site that will be announced later in the season and the 2018 NCAA National Championships will take place March 21-24 in Indianapolis, Ind.
