KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Feb. 23, 2017) – This Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25, two USMMA divers will be taking part in the NCAA Division III Diving Regional Championship Meet, hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology up in Cambridge, Mass. At the event, senior Blythe Fentress (Shady Shores, Texas) and junior Adam Fisher (Edgerton, Wis.) will both look to earn berths to the DIII National Championships in Texas in mid-march.

A total of 22 schools will be sending divers to the two-day event. On Friday, the women's one-meter competition is scheduled for 2 p.m., while the men's three-meter diving will take place at 6 p.m. The boards will flip on Saturday with the women's three-meter beginning at 12-noon and the men's one-meter starting at 4 p.m. More information on the Regional Championships, including ticket prices, parking, a campus map, etc., can be found on the Championship Hub page set up by MIT at this link.

Traditionally, the Northeast/North Region has sent seven divers on both the men's and women's side to the National Championships and that is expected to be the case again this year. Top three finishes in one board typically guarantees a trip to Texas, but average finishes of the two boards are used in some cases to decide who earns a berth to Nationals.

Fentress is coming off a strong regular season in which she set two new Academy records in both one-meter events with scores of 290.85 in the six-dive competition and 475.225 in the 11-dive competition. She now holds the program records in all four diving events, as last year she set the three-meter (six dives) mark of 289.55. This past weekend she was named the Metropolitan Conference Diver of the Year after placing first in the three-meter board and second in the one-meter board.

Fisher has also enjoyed success for the Mariners as of late for Merchant Marine, as he had a strong showing at the Met Championships this past weekend, placing fourth in both boards – third among DIII divers. Like Fentress, this is the second-straight season that Fisher will be competing in the Regional Championships.
