Fentress, Gathy & Monahan Garner ECAC Weekly Honors

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Feb. 22, 2017) – On Tuesday, the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced that U.S. Merchant Marine Academy senior Blythe Fentress (Shady Shores, Texas) was named the Division III Metro Women's Swim & Dive Diver of the Week and freshmen Meika Gathy (Waterford, Conn.) and Nolan Monahan (Stafford, Va.) earned ECAC Rookie of the Week honors.

Fentress was named the Metropolitan Conference Diver of the Year after she earned NCAA-qualifying marks in both the three-meter and the one-meter boards at the Metropolitan Championship Meet this past weekend, helping lead the Mariners to a program-best fifth-place showing at the event. She scored a 451.20 to win the three-meter board and a 455.55 on the one-meter board to place second.

Gathy set two individual Academy records and played a part in a relay record at the Metropolitan Championship Meet this past weekend. She set a new program record in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:19.67 (12th place) and in the 200 free while leading off the 800 free relay team that also set an Academy record. Her individual time was 1:59.01 and the team finished in 8:02.63, which was good for fifth place. The rookie also anchored the 400 free relay team that just missed out on an Academy record by three-tenths of a second with a seventh-place finish in 3:39.90 (individual time of 54.86).

His 400 free relay team also came in fourth in 3:07.08 (individual time of 46.60). Individually, the rookie placed seventh in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:06.52.
