Mariners Defeat St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn In Skyline Conference Dual Meet

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Jan. 10, 2017) – The USMMA men's swimming & diving team came out victorious in a Skyline Conference dual meet against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn at home Tuesday night at the O'Hara Hall Pool. With the victory, the Mariners improve to 5-1 on the season, with a perfect 5-0 mark in Skyline Conference action.
 
The Mariners recorded first-place finishes in all 13 events on the night. Three different Mariners recorded two victories apiece during the meet – senior Joshua Jepsen (San Diego, Calif.) and freshmen Nolan Monahan (Stafford, Va.) and Michael Moore (Los Alamos, N.M.).
 
Jepsen touched first in the 100 backstroke (1:00.10) and the 100 breaststroke (1:03.68).
 
Monahan was a member of the 200 medley relay squad – along with sophomore John Olsen (Milford, N.H.), junior Jordan Weaver (Olive Branch, Miss.) and freshman Daniel Maxian (New Hope, Pa.) – that started the night with a win in 1:44.42, and he also won the 100 butterfly (55.47).
 
Moore was victorious in the 200 individual medley (2:02.42) and led off the 200 freestyle relay squad that touched first in 3:30.70 with freshman Zachary Hess (Vernon, Conn.) and seniors John Terselic (Tijera, N.M.) and Karl Sasse (Frederick, Md.).
 
In diving action, junior Adam Fisher (Edgerton, Wis.) won the one-meter dive with a score of 267.75 and sophomore Thomas Curry (Los Angeles, Calif.) and freshman Leighton-Joshua Flores (Marysville, Wash.) tied for first in the three-meter dive with scores of 127.95.
 
The Mariners are back in action this Saturday, Jan. 14, when they travel up to New London, Conn. to take on arch-rival Coast Guard in a dual meet to earn an overall point in the race for the 2016-17 Superintendents' Trophy. First race is scheduled for 12-noon at the Bears' Roland Pool.
