EWING, N.J. (Dec. 4, 2016) – In an event where all other teams were shaved, tapered and rested, yet the Mariners were fresh out of the weight room and not tapered or shaved, the USMMA men's swim & dive team came in second place out of the five teams at The College of New Jersey's Lions Invitational this weekend.
Junior diver Adam Fisher (Edgerton, Wis.) recorded his first NCAA Qualifying Mark of the season in the one meter dive (11 dives) event. One more NCAA mark on that board and he will officially qualify for Regionals. He placed third in that event as well as the one meter (6 dives) event and the three meter (6 dives) event
Senior Kevin Sweetman (Austin, Texas) led the Mariner swimmers with a second place finish in the 1650 freestyle race. Two other Mariners both had two third place finishes at the event – senior Karl Sasse (Frederick, Md.) touched third in the 100 and the 200 breaststroke events, while freshman Michael Moore (Los Alamos, N.M.) came in third in the 1650 free and the 200 butterfly.
Complete results from the event are not yet available from TCNJ, but all of USMMA's places over the three-day competition are available at this link. Diving results are available and can be accessed by clicking here.
Up next, the Mariners will travel out to Patchogue, N.Y., this Friday, Dec. 9, to take on Skyline opponent Old Westbury in a neutral-site conference meet at St. Joseph's College of Long Island. Action is set to get underway at 6 p.m. at the Eagles' Danzi Athletic Center Pool.
