KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Nov. 19, 2016) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's swimming & diving team opened the 2016-17 season by hosting the USMMA Memorial Invitational on Saturday at the O'Hara Hall Pool. Team scores were not kept at the event, which featured five other schools – Division II Adelphi and Queens and Division III Vassar, Stevens and SUNY Maritime.
Freshman Nolan Monahan (Stafford, Va.) had a great first-career meet, as he came in first place in three freestyle events – the 100 free (47.95), the 50 free (21.80) and the 200 free (1:49.11).
Junior diver Adam Fisher (Edgerton, Wis.) bested his opposition in both the one-meter and three-meter dive events. He scored 209.30 points in the one-meter dive and 168.00 in the three-meter dive.
Senior Karl Sasse (Frederick, Md.) had the Mariners' only other first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (59.96).

The Mariners are back in action in two weekends, when they travel to Ewing, N.J., Dec. 2-4 for the TCNJ Invite.
