KINGS POINT, N.Y. (March 15, 2016) – U.S. Merchant Marine Academy senior diver Gerrit Porter (Houston, Texas) will be representing the Mariner men's swimming & diving team this week at the NCAA Division III National Championship Meet down in Greensboro, N.C., along with diving coach Johan Lopez. Porter, who qualified for both the one- and three-meter boards back on Feb. 26-27 at the Northeast Regional Meet, will begin his quest for a National Title on Wednesday with the three-meter diving competition.

This is the 15th straight season that the USMMA coaching staff led by head coach Sean Tedesco has sent a swimmer and/or diver through to the national event.

Porter has had a phenomenal year thus far in this, his senior season. He set new Academy records in the three-meter dive, six dives (367.95) and the one-meter dive, 11 dives (563.75), breaking previous marks set by National Champion diver Nick Halbach '11.

The four-day event kicks off tomorrow, Wednesday, March 16, and will conclude on Saturday night, March 19. Porter will be competing in the three-meter dive on Wednesday and the one-meter dive on Friday. The morning preliminary sessions begin at 10 a.m. each day, with the evening finals sessions starting at 6 p.m.
