WELLESLEY, Mass. (Feb. 27, 2016) – This weekend, USMMA diving coach Johan Lopez took the three Mariner divers that qualified for the NCAA Diving Regionals up to Wellesley College for a chance to send them through to Nationals. Senior Gerrit Porter (Houston, Texas) placed first in the one-meter dive on Friday and second in the three-meter dive on Saturday to qualify for the NCAA National Championship.
Porter won the one-meter event on Friday night with a score of 482.65 and his score of 477.15 in the three-meter event on Saturday placed second behind fellow qualifier Matthew Rohrer of Tufts (499.00).
Junior Blythe Fentress (Shady Shores, Texas) came in 17th place in the three-meter dive on Friday with a 390.20 and was 22nd in the one-meter on Saturday, scoring a 352.45.
Sophomore Adam Fisher (Edgerton, Wisc.) placed 14th in both the one-meter (330.05) and three-meter (343.70) diving competitions.
Porter will represent the swim & dive program at the 2016 NCAA National Championship Meet, which is set to take place March 16-19 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C.
