Macedo & Fentress Earn ECAC DIII Metro Swim & Dive Weekly Accolades

DANBURY, Conn. (Feb. 24, 2016) – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced that USMMA freshman Matheus Macedo (Elk Grove, Calif.) was named the DIII Metro Men's Rookie of the Week, while junior Blythe Fentress (Shady Shores, Texas) earned DIII Metro Diver of the Week honors on the women's side.

For Macedo, this is the first weekly accolade of his young career. The rookie earned the Mariners' best time of the season in the 50 and 100 freestyle this past weekend at the 2016 Metropolitan Collegiate Championships. He touched in 21.23 in the finals of the 50 free, and also led off the 400-freestyle relay squad with a time of 47.35 in the finals, helping the Mariners to a sixth-place finish in the event.

This is Fentress' third time this season and fourth time in her career that she was named an ECAC Diver of the Week. Fentress earned Division-III qualifying marks in both the one- and three-meter diving events this past weekend at the 2016 Metropolitan Collegiate Championships. She won the three-meter dive with a finals score of 472.40, with her preliminary-round score of 492.25 setting a new Academy record. She also placed fourth in the one-meter dive with a score of 419.55.

Fentress and two other Mariner divers – senior Gerrit Porter (Houston, Texas) and sophomore Adam Fisher (Edgerton, Wisc.) – will be competing in the NCAA Northeast Regional Diving competition this weekend, hosted by Wellesley College in Massachusetts. The two-day event begins on Friday and the top six divers for both the men and women will qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships.

The rest of the squad will be awaiting the announcement of the invitations to the NCAA National Championships, which is expected to happen early next week. The Mariner men had three swimmers earn D3 qualifying times, while the women had one.
