Mariners 200 Free Relay Team Sets Landmark Conference and Academy Records at NCAA Championships

Shenandoah, TX – The USMMA men's swimming team narrowly missed its first set of Honorable Mention All-America accolades as the 200 freestyle relay team placed 17th Thursday morning in the second day of the 2013 NCAA Championships.  The quartet of Sean Minor (Fort Myers, FL), Kevin Lindgren (Palm City, FL), Alvaro Brice (The Woodlands, TX), and Joshua McCormick (Granite Bay, CA) established new Landmark Conference and Academy records by posting a time of 1:23.27.  USMMA was kept out of the consolation finals, and being named Honorable Mention All-Americans, by just .09 seconds.

Minor took off from the blocks first and notched a split of 21.21 seconds before Lindgren hit the water.  Lindgren would post the fastest 50 yards for the Mariners with a time of 20.49 seconds.  Brice was third in the pool and hit the wall in 20.77 seconds before sending in McCormick for the anchor leg of the relay.  McCormick stopped the clock at 1:23.27 following his split of 20.80 seconds.

After today's morning session, Merchant Marine currently sits in 17th place as a team and will compete in one event in each of the final two days of the NCAA Championships.  Lindgren will swim as an individual tomorrow as the sophomore is the eighth overall seed in the 100 yard backstroke.
