The USMMA men's swimming team will send at least four competitors to the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships in Shenandoah, Texas. Kevin Lindgren (Palm City, FL), Sean Minor (Fort Myers, FL), Alvaro Brice (The Woodlands, TX), and Joshua McCormick (Granite Bay, CA) will all represent the Merchant Marine Academy at the National Championships March 20-23. Merchant Marine will have a representative in at least seven events, with the possibility of adding Landmark Conference Diver of the Year William Porter (Houston, TX) to the program based on this weekend's regional qualifying in Springfield, MA.
"We are excited that we will be swimming seven races at the NCAA Championships," said USMMA Head Coach Sean Tedesco. "Our team has worked hard all year and it is nice to see that effort pay off."
Lindgren, the Landmark Conference Swimmer of the Year, will be seeded third overall in the 200 backstroke and eighth in the 100 backstroke. Lindgren, who made a NCAA 'A' cut in both of those events, will also swim the 200 individual medley.
Minor will be the other solo competitor for USMMA as the senior is seeded 28th in the 50 freestyle.
Lindgren and Minor will be joined by relay teammates Brice and McCormick as the 16th seed in the 400 freestyle relay, an event in which they claimed gold at the Landmark and Metropolitan Championships. Despite Merchant Marine frequently having a relay team meet qualifying standards this year will mark the first time since 2007 that a Mariner relay squad as received an invitation to NCAA's. As a result of the invitation, the quartet is also eligible to swim in the 200 and 800 freestyle relays.
