Lindgren Hits Second NCAA “B” Cut of the Year as USMMA Defeats NYU, 174-124
Kings Point, NY – Merchant Marine Sophomore Kevin Lindgren (Palm City, FL) blew away the field in the 100 backstroke with a time of 51.77, making his second NCAA "B" cut in as many weeks. The Mariners had a solid night from top to bottom as USMMA knocked off visiting NYU, 174-124, at O'Hara Pool. Lindgren also took first-place in the 200 backstroke and the 200 individual medley.
The Mariners started strong with a victory in the 200 yard medley relay as the team of Lindgren, Chris Scott (Andover, KS), Alvaro Brice (The Woodlands, TX), and Sean Minor (Fort Myers, FL) posted a time of 1:38.07. Jordan Cripe (Monterey, CA) made it back-to-back W's for USMMA as he hit the wall in 10:16.05 in the 1000 freestyle. Cripe was also first to touch in the 500 freestyle, clocking in at 4:58.93.
Merchant Marine then dominated the 200 freestyle as Brice, Josh McCormick (Granite Bay, CA), and Blake Krell (Fort Myers, FL) finished first, second, and third, respectively. The Mariners ended the meet by running away with the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Brice, Minor, McCormick, and Krell outswam the Violets top-squad by over nine seconds as the USMMA foursome posted a time of 3:15.67.
Merchant Marine finishes its 2012-13 dual meet schedule with an impressive 9-1 record heading into the Landmark Conference Championships February 8-10. The Mariners will look to defend their 2012 title as they are the only team in the history of the Landmark Conference to win a conference championship.
