The men's swimming and diving team, winners of five straight Landmark Conference Championships, took to the pool for the first time this season Saturday in the USMMA Invitational. The event also featured Queens, Adelphi, Maritime (NY), Southern Connecticut State, and Bridgeport. Alvaro Brice (Alvaro, TX) and William Porter (Houston, TX) both opened some eyes during the meet.
Brice, a freshman, took home a total of four second place finishes, including in two individual events. He hit the wall in 2:02.52 in the 200 yard butterfly and clocked in at 1:47.34 in the 200 yard freestyle. Brice was also a part of the 400 yard freestyle and 200 yard medley relay teams that took second place.
"Brice had a very strong day in the pool," said head coach Sean Tedesco. "He swam very well and I am excited that he is performing well as a freshman."
Porter finished second in 3-meter diving by racking up 191.25 points and took the fourth position in the 1-meter event. What makes Porter's performance even more impressive is it was his first time diving in competition.
"He definitely excelled today," commented Tedesco. "He is just learning how to dive and is continuing to show great improvement. I'm really looking forward to seeing what he can do the rest of the season as he learns the sport."
The men's swimming and diving team returns to the pool November 30 - December 2 for the TCNJ Invitational.
