Kings Point, NY – The USMMA men's swimming and diving team was tabbed by every other program in the Landmark Conference to repeat as conference champions in 2012-13. Merchant Marine is the only team to ever win the Landmark Conference title since the league's inception in 2007-08. The Mariners success goes back even further, having earned 11 straight league championships dating back to competition in the Skyline Conference.
Susquehanna received USMMA's first-place vote and finished second in the Landmark Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll. Scranton, who finished second at least year's championships, and Catholic placed third and fourth, respectively. The rankings were rounded out, in order, by Marywood, Goucher, and Drew.
Merchant Marine Head Coach Sean Tedesco returns All-American Kevin Lindgren (Palm City, FL), who claimed conference titles and All-America honors in both the 100 and 200 backstroke as a freshman. USMMA piled up 828 points at least year's Landmark Championships, the largest total in meet history. However, the Mariners will be without a pair of All-Americans in 2012-13, losing both Frank Vita and John Fields to graduation.
USMMA still boasts a multitude of talent as they drive for a 12th straight championship. Seniors Blake Krell (Fort Myers, FL), Sean Minor (Fort Myers, FL), and Chris Scott (Andover, KS) combined for numerous strong relay outings last year and all return for their senior season in 2012-13.
The 2012-13 season kicks-off for the Mariners November 17 at the USMMA Invitational, which will also feature SUNY Maritime, Bridgeport, Adelphi, Southern Connecticut, and Queens.
