Yingling Lands On Skyline Men’s Soccer Weekly Honor Roll
The Skyline Conference announced its weekly honors on Tuesday and USMMA senior soccer captain Gavin Yingling (Salisbury, Md.) was named to the honor roll after his performances in the Mariners’ two games last week – a 2-1 double overtime home loss to Stevens on Wednesday and a 3-2 home Skyline victory over St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn on Saturday.

This past Saturday, August 20, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s soccer team was busy running its annual soccer clinic for the Long Beach Football Club in Long Beach, Long Island. The entire Mariner squad and coaching staff was on hand to organize activities and games for the kids and help them learn more about soccer. Once again, the clinic went very well and was a huge success.

The USMMA men’s soccer team was less than a minute away from a tough defeat on the road at Moravian on Wednesday, but sophomore Hannes Rogers (Weinheim, Germany) found the back of the net with just 54 ticks remaining on the clock in regulation to force overtime. The game finished 1-1 after the two, 10-minute overtime periods, giving both teams one point in the Landmark standings, and the draw moved the Mariners’ record to 8-3-1 (2-1-1 Landmark), while the Greyhounds now sit at 6-5-1 (1-2-1 Landmark).

Smolens Announces Hiring Of Geoff Cochrane As Men’s Soccer Assistant Coach
U.S. Merchant Marine Academy 26th-year head men’s soccer coach Michael Smolens announced the hiring of Geoff Cochrane as the latest addition to the Mariners’ coaching staff as an assistant coach on Tuesday. Mariners Picked To Finish Second In Landmark Men’s Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll
After a 2014 season in which the Mariner men’s soccer team finished as the runners-up at the Landmark Conference Tournament, the league’s head coaches picked USMMA to finish in second place in the standings ahead of this upcoming 2015 campaign. The Mariners received 62 points, including one first place vote, and sit behind 2014 Regular Season and Tournament Champion, Catholic, which received 75 points and seven first-place votes.

A Look Back at Soccer's Incredible & Historical 2010 Season
To say the 2010 United States Merchant Marine Academy men’s soccer team accomplished a lot this past season would be a vast understatement. Under the guidance of Head Coach Michael Smolens, who completed his 21st season with Kings Point, the Mariners reached the “Elite 8” round of the NCAA Division III Tournament, where they fell to the eventual champions Messiah College. From thrilling regular season battles and epic overtime playoff games to racking up individual accolades and making Academy history, USMMA did it all this year.

Magical Run Ends for Soccer with 3-0 Defeat to Messiah in Elite 8
ALLENTOWN, Pa. – On Sunday, the United States Merchant Marine Academy men’s soccer team saw its magical NCAA run come to an end in the Elite 8 round of the national championship tournament when it fell to the defending national champions Messiah College, 3-0, at Varsity Field on the campus of Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa. Moreover, Messiah has won seven national championships in the past 10 years.

Soccer Advances to NCAA Elite 8 for First Time in Academy History!
ALLENTOWN, Pa. – On Saturday, the United States Merchant Marine Academy men’s soccer team defeated Muhlenberg College in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Division III Tournament by a final score of 1-0 at Varsity Field in Allentown, Pa. With the victory, the Mariners improved to 13-2-5 on the season and will face Messiah College tomorrow afternoon in the Elite 8 round.
