  • Academy Announces $4 Million Gift For Lower Roosevelt Field Project

    Today, the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) announced that it received a $4 million gift through the USMMA Alumni Association and Foundation (AAF) for major renovations to Lower Roosevelt Field. The project will create a state-of-the-art sports complex at the Academy not only for the baseball field, but soccer and lacrosse surfaces as well.
  • Trio Of Mariners Named To NSCAA All-East Region Team

    Earlier this week, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced the All-Region Teams for the 2016 Division III Men’s Soccer Season. Three Mariners were honored – senior Gavin Yingling (Salisbury, Md.) was selected to the First Team, junior Hannes Rogers (Weinheim, Germany) earned Second Team accolades and senior Cory Maier (Hampton, Va.) picked up a Third Team nod.
  • Smolens Earns ECAC DIII Metro Coach Of The Year Honors; Yingling Named First Team ECAC All-Star

    On Wednesday, the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced the postseason honorees and the ECAC All-Stars for the 2016 men’s soccer season and two members of the USMMA program were recognized. Head Coach Michael Smolens was named the 2016 ECAC DIII Metro Coach of the Year and senior forward Gavin Yingling (Salisbury, Md.) was selected as a First Team ECAC All-Star.
  • Four Mariners Named To Skyline Fall All-Sportsmanship Team

    On Tuesday, the Skyline Conference announced that a total of 73 student-athletes have been selected to the Skyline All-Sportsmanship Teams for the Fall 2016 seasons. The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy had four student-athletes – one from each fall team that participates in the Skyline Conference – honored on the list.
  • Men’s Soccer Bows Out Of NCAA Tourney With Loss At #13 Haverford

    The USMMA men’s soccer team suffered a season-ending loss to #13 Haverford on Saturday, 5-1, in the opening round of the 2016 NCAA Championships. The defeat ends the Mariners’ season with a 13-5-2 record, while Haverford moves on with a 14-3-3 record to face #15 UMass-Boston in the second round on Sunday.

    On Saturday, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's soccer team will take on #13 Haverford College in the opening round of the 2016 NCAA Tournament down in Haverford, Pa. Kickoff between the Mariners and the host Fords is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Haverford’s Walton Field.

    The USMMA men’s soccer team will be travelling down to Haverford, Pa., this weekend for the opening rounds of 2016 NCAA Tournament at Haverford College. The Mariners will be taking on the host Fords in first round action this Saturday, Nov. 12. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Haverford’s Walton Field.

    On Monday, the Skyline Conference announced the year-end awards for men’s soccer and the Mariners had a total of six players and the coaching staff honored. Senior Gavin Yingling (Salisbury, Md.) was selected as the Offensive Player of the Year, while head coach Michael Smolens was picked as the Coach of the Year.

    The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s soccer team defeated visiting Farmingdale State, 3-2, on Wednesday in the Skyline Conference Championship Semifinals. The victory improves the Mariners’ record to 12-4-2 and advances the squad on to the Skyline Finals this Saturday, Nov. 5. In defeat, the Rams end their season with a 10-8 record.

    The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Mariners are the 2016 Skyline Conference Men’s Soccer Regular Season Champions! USMMA defeated visiting and #1-seed Mount St. Mary College on Saturday by the final score of 3-0 at Brooks Stadium. The victory improves the Mariners’ record to 11-4-2 (10-1 Skyline), while the Knights fall to 10-5-1 (9-1 Skyline) in defeat.

    On Monday night, the Skyline Conference announced that USMMA senior Gavin Yingling (Salisbury, Md.) was named the league’s Co-Player of the Week for men’s soccer. The accolade comes after Yingling’s performance in the Mariners’ two 4-1 victories last week over Mount St Vincent at home on Wednesday and Farmingdale State on the road on Saturday.

    Senior Tim Hughes (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) one-timed a pass by senior Gavin Yingling (Salisbury, Md.) into the back of the net with just 1:28 remaining on the clock in regulation to lift the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s soccer team over Skyline rival Sage, 2-1, on Tuesday night. The victory, which is the Mariners’ sixth-straight, improves USMMA’s record to 10-4-2 (9-1 Skyline) and clinches the squad a first-round bye in the Skyline Tournament. The Gators fall to 5-7-3 (3-5-1 Skyline) with the loss.

    The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's soccer team defeated Skyline Conference opponent Farmingdale State on the road on Saturday, 4-1, at FSC's Rams Field. The Mariners' fifth straight win improves their record to 9-4-2 (8-1 Skyline) and with 24 points in conference play, USMMA has clinched a playoff berth in the Skyline Tournament. Farmingdale falls to 7-6 (6-2 Skyline) with the loss.

    Senior David Burkhardt (Cutchogue, N.Y.) tallied his first goal of the season just 40 seconds into the Merchant Marine soccer team’s game against Sarah Lawrence today, and the Mariners never looked back, as they cruised to a 7-0 victory over the Gryphons. The victory improved USMMA’s record to 6-4-2 (6-1 Skyline), while SLC falls to 3-7 (0-6 Skyline) in defeat.
  • Men’s Soccer Named NSCAA 2015-16 Team Academic Award Winner

    On Thursday, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced their Academic Award Winners for exemplary performance in the classroom as a team during the 2015-16 academic year. The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy is among the men’s teams from across all three divisions of the NCAA throughout the country that are receiving the award from the NSCAA.

    The Skyline Conference announced its weekly honors on Tuesday and USMMA senior soccer captain Gavin Yingling (Salisbury, Md.) was named to the honor roll after his performances in the Mariners’ two games last week – a 2-1 double overtime home loss to Stevens on Wednesday and a 3-2 home Skyline victory over St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn on Saturday.

    Homecoming 2016 again featured our soccer alumni showing their stuff back at the Academy. Following the Mariners 3-2 Skyline Conference win over St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn, some Mariners from yesteryear took to the field. The alums looked as if they hadn’t aged at all, as they displayed some terrific soccer.
