BRONX, N.Y. (Oct. 31, 2018) – The #3 seed U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's soccer team won its Skyline semifinal matchup at rival #2 SUNY Maritime, 2-1, on Wednesday night at the Privateers' Reinhart Field. In victory, the Mariners' record improves to 12-4-2 and they advance to the Skyline Finals to face top-seeded Mount St. Mary on the road this Saturday, Nov. 3. SUNY Maritime's record falls to 14-5-1 with the loss.

USMMA struck first in the 10th minute when junior Alex Madonna (Gibsonia, Pa.) found the back of the net off a set piece from a corner kick. Classmate Sam McGill (Canton, Ohio) and senior Michael Mischler (Monroe Township, N.J.) picked up assists on the tally.

The Privateers tied up the game not even four minutes later, however, when senior Parker Gallt one-timed a feed from junior Anthony Sblendorio about 30 yards out past Merchant Marine junior keeper Matthew Milner (Mount Airy, Md.)

The score remained 1-1 into the halftime break, despite the hosts out-shooting the Mariners, 9-3. Milner made four saves in the opening 45 minutes.

It was a reversal of play in the second half, as it was USMMA that was the aggressor – firing off a total of 13 shots to just three for Maritime. Sophomore Zach Lysakowski (Reading, Pa.) gave the Mariners the lead in the 54th minute after he took a through ball by Mischler on a give-and-go and found the top corner past SUNY's junior keeper Michael Rodriguez.

That marker held up as the game-winner, Lysakowski's fifth of the season.

Milner ended the night with five saves, and the Mariners also picked up a defensive stop by sophomore Luke Sturtz (Norman, Okla.) late in the 17th minute. Rodriguez had five saves in the second half alone for the Privateers and finished the game with six total.

The Skyline Championship Match is scheduled for this Saturday, Nov. 3, up in Newburgh, N.Y., on the campus of #1 seed Mount St. Mary College. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Knights' Kaplan Field. Live stats for the game will be available at this link.
