KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Sept. 5, 2018) - Behind four second-half goals, the USMMA men's soccer team defeated visiting Medgar Evers College, 6-0, on Wednesday night at Brooks Stadium. The victory improves the Mariners' record to 2-0 on the season, while the Cougars fall to 0-2.

For the second-straight game, sophomore Zach Lysakowski (Reading, Pa.) opened the scoring, as he fired in a free kick from just outside the box in the fourth minute, and again his goal proved to be the game-winner for the Mariners.

Junior Alex Madonna (Gibsonia, Pa.) double the lead in the 24th minute after he received a beautiful pass in the middle from the left side by classmate Sam McGill (Canton, Ohio) and fired home a shot to make it 2-0 in favor of USMMA.

The Mariners had a lot more chances to find the back of the net in the first half, but were unable to - thanks in large part to the play of Medgar Evers' freshman keeper Carl-Henry Obeissant, who finished the first half with eight saves.

They did, however, add a plethora of goals in the final 26-plus minutes, starting with a header by sophomore Ryan Haines (Marlton, N.J.) off a corner by freshman David Kelly (Lutherville, Md.) in the 74th minute, followed by a tally by junior David Germain (Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y.) assisted by freshman Daniel Murphy (Sandwich, Mass.) in the 81st minute, then Murphy had another helper on sophomore Hunter West's (Southampton, N.Y.) 87th minute score before Murphy found the back of the net himself in the 88th minute off a pass by Kelly.

In goal, junior Matthew Milner (Mount Airy, Md.) made one save after facing just four shots (just the one on goal), all coming the first half. It was his second-straight shutout to start the season. Obeissant finished the night with 15 saves for Medgar Evers.

Up next, the Mariners will travel up to New London, Conn., this Saturday, Sept. 8, for its rivalry game against Coast Guard. Opening whistle is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at the Bears' Nitchman Field.
