Olsen ’13, Poulin ’14 And Yingling Selected To Landmark Men’s Soccer All-Decade Team

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 28, 2016) – Three USMMA men's soccer players – a pair of alums and a current senior – were selected to the Landmark Conference All-Decade Team, the league announced on Thursday – defender Kurt Olsen '13, goalkeeper Gary Poulin '14 and forward Gavin Yingling (Salisbury, Md.).

Both Olsen and Poulin were a part of the Merchant Marine teams that reached the NCAA Tournament in three consecutive seasons (2009, 2010 and 2011). The 2010 Merchant Marine squad is the only team in Academy history to reach the Elite Eight.

Olsen was a two-time Landmark Defensive Player of the Year (2010 & 2011) and was named to the All-Landmark First Team three times (2010-2012). During his freshman year of 2009, he was selected as the Landmark Rookie of the Year. Along with being a phenomenal defensive player, Olsen also scored some of the biggest goals in Academy history. He was named the recipient of the Admiral Giles C. Stedman Trophy as the Academy's top senior male student-athlete for the 2012-13 season.

Poulin played four seasons for the Mariners from 2009-2013. He was named to the All-Landmark First Team twice (2011 & 2013) and to the Academic Honor Roll from 2010-2013. Poulin also was honored with the Landmark's Senior Scholar Athlete Award in 2013. He finished his career with 297 saves, 39 wins and a save percentage of .803. His 297 saves ranks him first all-time in the Landmark record books, while his 39 wins is second.

Yingling, who is currently a senior on the 2016 USMMA squad, played three years in the Landmark Conference before the Academy moved to the Skyline beginning this season. He was named the Landmark Offensive Player of the Year after his sophomore season of 2014. He was also named to the All-Landmark First Team twice (2014 & 2015). Yingling currently has 37 goals and seven assists for 81 points in 69 career games played.

"We are very proud to have three guys named on the Landmark Conference All-Decade Team," said 27th-year head coach Michael Smolens. "For Gavin to be the only current student-athlete named to the squad is quite an honor. He has come through with big goals on a number of occasions and his work ethic has helped him achieve so much success during his time at the Academy. He had a tremendous impact on our team in the Landmark Conference and continues to do the same now that we are in the Skyline. It truly is fitting for Gary and Kurt to be honored together. They were major contributors in helping our team go to three straight NCAA tournaments, including our tremendous run to the Elite Eight in 2010. Gary and Kurt personified 'Acta Non Verba' and having them both named is a great reflection on their teammates, our coaches and the Academy. The only thing that makes us prouder than their work at the Academy is the success they have achieved after graduation."
