Yingling Earns Skyline Men’s Soccer Player Of The Week Honors

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 25, 2016) – For the second straight week and the third time this season USMMA men's soccer senior forward Gavin Yingling (Salisbury, Md.) was named the Skyline Conference Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. The honor comes after his performances in the Mariners' two Skyline victories last week.

Yingling supplied all the offense for Merchant Marine, as he notched a hat-trick in a 3-0 victory over first-place Mount St. Mary at home on Saturday. The win clinched the Skyline regular season title for the Mariners, earning them the #1 seed in the upcoming Skyline Tournament. Yingling also added an assist on the game-winning goal late in the second half of USMMA's 2-1 road victory at Sage on Tuesday night.

The senior tops the conference with 17 goals and 36 points on the season. Yingling ranks fifth among all Division III players with six game-winning goals, while his 17 goals ranks eighth and his 36 points ranks 14th in the country.

Junior Jon Tarbox (Gettysburg, Pa.) also ranks in the Top 10 in the nation, as his 11 assists are good for eighth. As a team, the Mariners are in the Top 25 in the country in assists (10th with 44), shots per game (22nd with 20.0) and shots on goal per game (23rd with 9.59), while their 126 total points ranks 31st in DIII.
