Pair Of Mariners Earn Skyline Weekly Awards; Yingling Also Garners ECAC Honor

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Sept. 20, 2016) – Two members of the USMMA men's soccer team earned Skyline Conference weekly honors on Monday, as senior Gavin Yingling (Salisbury, Md.) was named the Skyline Player of the Week and freshman Alex Madonna (Gibsonia, Pa.) earned Rookie of the Week honors. On Tuesday, the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced that Yingling was also selected as the Division III Metro Player of the Week.

The accolades come after the duo's performances in the Mariners' two Skyline Conference victories this past week over Yeshiva and SUNY Maritime – both ending in identical 5-0 final scores.

Yingling recorded five goals over the two contests – one against the Maccabees on Thursday night and four in the first half against the Privateers at home on Saturday. Yingling sits atop the Skyline Conference leaderboard with six goals in as many games, while his 12 points is good for second in the league.

Madonna scored his first career goal in the second half against Yeshiva on Thursday and then added another in the win over Maritime on Saturday afternoon. He leads the Mariner freshmen and is 10th in the Skyline Conference with four points on the year, while his 0.67 goals per game is good for fifth in the league.

Also appearing on the Skyline Conference leaderboards are junior Jon Tarbox (Gettysburg, Pa.) and senior Michael Heckmuller (Cypress, Calif.). Tarbox is tied for third in the league with nine points, tied for second with three assists and tied for fourth with three goals. Heckmuller's two assists are tied for sixth in the Skyline.

As a team, the first-place Mariners rank second in the conference with 12 goals scored and are tied for the league lead with just seven goals allowed.
