KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Aug. 26, 2016) – This past Saturday, August 20, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's soccer team was busy running its annual soccer clinic for the Long Beach Football Club in Long Beach, Long Island. The entire Mariner squad and coaching staff was on hand to organize activities and games for the kids and help them learn more about soccer. Once again, the clinic went very well and was a huge success.
"Coach Fitzgerald, Coach Cochrane and I were pleased to be able to hold this clinic for Long Beach," commented 27th-year Head Coach Michael Smolens. "It's nice for our Midshipmen to get out and work with young people. It helps spread the word about the Academy and hopefully helps develop a love for soccer in these young people."
"Once again, LBFC was thrilled to participate in the annual soccer clinic sponsored by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy soccer team," said LBFC President Mark Weiner. "The children in attendance had a special opportunity to work hand-in-hand with the students and for a brief time share equally in their passion for soccer. LBFC is appreciative of the fun and generous time offered to our children, and we wish the Merchant Marine Academy best of luck in their upcoming season, and look forward to next year's clinic!"
