Connors Reaches 100 Career Points In Mariners’ Skyline-Opening Win Over Mount St. Vincent

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 2, 2019) – USMMA junior Liam Connors (Bellmore, N.Y.) came into the night needing three points to reach 100 for his career and he got just that with two goals and an assist to help lead the Mariners to a 23-2 home win over Mount St. Vincent in both teams' Skyline-Opener. Merchant Marine improves to 6-3 (1-0 Skyline) with the victory, while the Dolphins fall to 1-8 (0-1 Skyline) in defeat. 

Eight other Mariners had multi-point nights, with junior Nick Roros (Northport, N.Y.) leading all players with five points on four goals and an assist. Senior Michael Rodriguez (Coronado, Calif.) added three goals and a helper, freshman Liam Pickett (Charlotte, N.C.) recorded his first career hat trick by finding the back of the net three times and, like Connors, both senior Jack Renard (San Clemente, Calif.) and freshman Zach Hasbrouck (Greenvale, N.Y.) had two tallies and one assist each. Junior Jackson Misner (Tampa, Fla.), sophomore Nick Alberici (Auburn, N.Y.) and freshman Matt Groom (Bethpage, N.Y.) all had a goal and a helper apiece. 

Senior Matt Kane (Lewes, Del.), juniors John Maudsley (Wilton, Conn.) and Mike Morsberger (Catonsville, Md.) and sophomore Ian McClintock (St. Augustine, Fla.) all scored one goal each. In the faceoff-X, senior Charley Hughes (Baltimore, Md.) was a perfect 20-for-20 and he picked up a game-high 10 groundballs. Rodriguez also gobbled up seven groundballs to rank second in the game. 

Defensively, three Mariners caused a game-high two turnovers each – Alberici and freshmen Jason Aiello (Northport, N.Y.) and Lukas Peregoy (Medford, N.Y.)

In goal, sophomore Shannon Byrne II (Severna Park, Md.) earned the victory after playing the first half. He gave way to classmate Brendan Kane (Lewes, Del.) in the second half, who made five saves to preserve the victory. 

For the Dolphins, freshman Patrick Nagy scored the first goal of the game and senior Jarrett McLean had a tally that made it 2-2 early in the second quarter. Junior goalie Christian Brody made an incredible 29 saves on the night, while he and senior Anthony Pedatella tied for the team-high with five groundballs each. 

The Mariners are back at it this coming Saturday, April 6, for another home Skyline game, this time against St. Joseph's-Long Island. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 12-noon at Brooks Stadium.
