KINGS POINT, N.Y. (March 30, 2019) – The USMMA men's lacrosse team defeated visiting UMass-Boston, 16-4, on a beautiful Saturday at Brooks Stadium. The win moves the Mariners' record to 5-3, while the Beacons drop their sixth-straight and fall to 1-8.
Seniors Matt Kane (Lewes, Del.) and Jack Renard (San Clemente, Calif.) and junior Liam Connors (Bellmore, N.Y.) all had a game-high five points, as Kane and Connors had four goals and an assist each and Renard scored twice and dished out three assists.
Juniors Nick Roros (Northport, N.Y.) and John Maudsley (Wilton, Conn.) both found the back of the net twice each, and the Mariners also got goals from senior Michael Rodriguez (Coronado, Calif.) and Matt Groom (Bethpage, N.Y.), while two other Mariners had assists – senior Teddy Finley (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and junior Mike Morsberger (Catonsville, Md.).
Freshman defender Jason Aiello (Northport, N.Y.) continues to shine, as he caused a game-high four turnovers and led all players with five groundballs. Renard also gobbled up four GBs and Connors had three caused turnovers.
In goal, sophomore Brendan Kane (Lewes, Del.) made four saves in the first half and picked up his second victory of the season. Classmate Shannon Byrne II (Severna Park, Md.) played the entire second half and stopped eight UMass-Boston shots.
For the Beacons, sophomore Conor Lenfest led the way with three points on two goals and one assist. Three different players had a team-high four groundballs each – junior Robert Ranta, sophomore Joe Mauceri and freshman Jack Ranta. In goal, senior Cameron Dixson was tacked with the loss after making an unbelievable 23 saves.
USMMA is back at it this Tuesday, April 2, when the Mariners open Skyline action with a home contest against Mount St. Vincent beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Brooks Stadium. Live stats and a live video feed of the game will be available with links on the USMMA Men's Lacrosse Schedule Page.
