Treon Ends Season As NCAA Division III Statistical Champion For Points Per Game

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (June 6, 2018) – The 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse season came to an end Memorial Day Weekend and, with the final statistical rankings report issued by the NCAA after conclusion of the year, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy senior Nick Treon (Danville, Pa.) finished as the 2018 DIII Statistical Champion with 6.41 points per game, leading all players in the country in the category.

Treon, a USILA/Nike All-America Honorable Mention and the Skyline Offensive Player of the Year, became the first Mariner in program history to tally more than 100 points in a season, as he finished the 2018 campaign with 109 points on 57 goals and 52 assists. He ends his career with a program record 286 points (141 goals and 145 assists) and has re-written the USMMA men's lacrosse record books throughout his time at Kings Point.

In addition to leading the nation with 6.41 points per game, Treon also ranked seventh in the country with 3.06 assists per game and 16th among all DIII players with 3.35 goals per game. He was the main contributor to helping the Mariners, as a team, finish the year ranked in the top-25 in the nation in six offensive categories: third with a .367 shot percentage, fourth in scoring offense (17.18 goals per game), fourth with 26.65 points per game, ninth with 9.47 assists per game, 19th with a 6.24 scoring margin and 21st with 161 total assists.

Treon was one of four Mariners to finish the season ranked in the top-40 in the nation in a statistical category. Fellow senior Pat Coll (Clifton Park, N.Y.) ranked third in the country with 4.06 goals per game and 18th with 4.94 points per game, freshman Kyle Buser (Babylon, N.Y.) ended the year ranked second with a .753 face-off winning percentage and third with 11.65 groundballs per game and junior Jack Renard (San Clemente, Calif.) ranked 35th in the nation with a .458 shot percentage and 37th with 2.00 assists per game.

Treon, Coll, Buser, Renard and the rest of the Mariners enjoyed the best season in program history in 2018, as the squad ended the year with a 14-3 overall record, including a perfect 6-0 mark in Skyline Conference action. They captured the program's second Skyline Championship in early May (third conference title overall), booking their ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history and winning their first ever NCAA Tournament game with a 22-15 victory over Johnson & Wales in the First Round.
