KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 3, 2017) – Two members of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's lacrosse team earned both Skyline Conference men's lax weekly awards, the league announced on Monday, as junior Nick Treon (Danville, Pa.) was named the Player of the Week and freshman Zac Tilley (Carolina Beach, N.C.) earned Rookie of the Week accolades. Additionally, the ECAC announced on Tuesday that Tiller was named the DIII South Rookie of the Week.
These honors come after the duo helped lead the Mariners to two Skyline victories last week over St. Joseph's-L.I. (12-8) at home on Wednesday and SUNY Maritime (12-6) on the road on Saturday.
Treon led the Mariners with 11 points over the two games, scoring seven times and dishing out one assist. He had two goals and an assist on Wednesday night and then followed that up with a career-high seven goals with one assist on Saturday. The junior currently ranks third in the Skyline with 4.43 points per game. This is the third time the conference has recognized Treon this season, as he earned weekly honor roll nods on both March 13 and March 27.
Tilley played the second half in both games last week and helped preserve the Mariner victories with back-to-back double-digit save efforts. He stopped 10 St. Joseph's shots on Wednesday night and had 12 saves at SUNY Maritime on Saturday. The rookie's .606 save percentage ranks second in the Skyline Conference.
