KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Feb. 28, 2017) – On Tuesday, USMMA 27th-year head coach Tom Gill announced the schedule for the upcoming 2017 men's lacrosse season. This year marks the Mariners' first campaign back in the Skyline Conference since 2007, as they join the now 10-team league.
Merchant Marine will play a total of 14 games in the regular season – with an even split of seven games in March and seven games in April. Six of the Mariners' games will be at home on Tomb Field at Brooks Stadium, while eight will be played away from Kings Point – including a neutral-site game against arch-rival Coast Guard as part of a doubleheader with the Army and Navy men's lacrosse teams down at Navy on Saturday, April 15.
The season kicks off next Wednesday, March 8, when USMMA travels down to Buena Vista, Va., for a non-conference matchup against Southern Virginia. The Mariners stay on the road for a game at FDU-Florham on Saturday, March 11.
The 2017 home opener is scheduled for Wednesday, March 15, against Western Connecticut State. The first Skyline game of the year follows on Saturday, March 18, when Merchant Marine plays at Kean University in Union, N.J.
After a road, non-conference game at Manhattanville on Wednesday, March 22, the Mariners will close out the month by hosting back-to-back Skyline contests on Saturday, March 25 against eight-time defending conference champions Montclair State (on Senior Day) and on Wednesday, March 29 against St. Joseph's of Long Island.
The remainder of the schedule alternates home and road games. April opens with a league game on the road at SUNY Maritime, the annual Hagedorn Cup game against the Privateers, on Saturday, April 1.
Two more Skyline games are on the schedule for the next week as the Mariners host Mount St. Vincent on Tuesday, April 4, and travel to Farmingdale State on Saturday, April 8. USMMA then hosts Stockton in conference action on Wednesday, April 12, before their trip down to Annapolis.
The Superintendents' Trophy game against Coast Guard will be played on Saturday, April 15, at the Naval Academy's Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. For more information on the 2017 rivalry game, click here.
The home-finale is scheduled for Wednesday, April 19, against Mount St. Mary and the regular season comes to a close on Saturday, April 22, up at Purchase.

The first round matchups will feature the #3 seed hosting the #6 seed and the #4 seed hosting the #5 seed on Saturday, April 29. The semifinals are scheduled for Wednesday, May 3, and the Skyline Finals will be played on Saturday, May 6.
The Skyline Champion will earn an automatic berth into field of 32 teams in the 2017 NCAA Division III National Championships later in May.
Early last week, the Skyline Conference announced the Preseason Coaches' Poll and Merchant Marine was picked to finish in fifth place in the league with 50 points. Montclair State (81 points) was the unanimous choice to finish first, with Stockton (71) in second, Farmingdale State (63) in third and Kean (54) in fourth.
