Men’s Lacrosse Participates In 9th Annual Jimmy’s Run Down Hero Highway

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Nov. 14, 2016) – On Sunday, Nov. 13, members of the USMMA men's lacrosse team participated in the 9th Annual Jimmy's Run Down Hero Highway in Manhattan. The annual patriotic event is a 4.5 mile fun run/walk/stroll that honors disabled and fallen Army Rangers and those Rangers currently serving in harm's way around the world.

The title of the event pays tribute to Sgt. Jimmy Regan, a native of nearby Manhasset, N.Y.,  former Division I lacrosse player at Duke University and U.S. Army Ranger who was killed in Iraq in 2007. The event was produced by the Ranger Lead the Way Fund, Inc., a non-profit organization established to provide spouses and children of deceased, disabled or active duty Rangers with assistance for health and wellness programs and other services determined to be vital to the family's well-being.

Starting at Pier 45, all participants gathered for a spirited trip along the West Side Highway, past Ground Zero, and in constant view of Lady Liberty. The festivities continued with a post-race celebration at the beautiful Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers.

A very special recognition took place at the celebration, as well, as a Gold Star Memorial Presentation honored the families of fallen Rangers: PFC Christopher Alexander Horns (Killed in Action on 11/22/11 in Afghanistan) and SSG Kevin Matthew Pape (Killed in Action on 11/16/10 in Afghanistan).

It was described by one participant as "a humbling and inspiring experience to be surrounded by so many people who came together to not only support the Rangers, but keep Jimmy's legacy, spirit and patriotism alive." For the Mariner men's lacrosse team, it was a way to live out the Academy's motto of "Acta Non Verba" (Deeds Not Words).
