KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Feb. 19, 2016) – The 2016 U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's lacrosse schedule features a total of 15 regular season contests beginning next Saturday, Feb. 27, and ending on Saturday, April 30. 26th-year head coach Tom Gill will look to improve on the Mariners' 7-7 finish in 2015, which included a 3-4 mark in Landmark Conference action, as the team hopes to reach the Landmark Tournament for the first time since the 2013 season.

Of the 15 games on this year's slate, USMMA will host seven at Brooks Stadium, while playing six road games and two neutral site games in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Nine of the contests this year will be non-conference games and the remaining six will be played against Landmark Conference opponents in the last year of the Mariners' participation in the Landmark before moving back to the Skyline Conference next year.

The 2016 season opens next Saturday, Feb. 27, when Merchant Marine travels to New London, Conn., to face arch-rival Coast Guard in the first Superintendents' Trophy matchup of the spring season. Through 13 contests thus far in 2015-16, USMMA trails Coast Guard, 8-5, in the chase for this year's Superintendents' Trophy.

The Mariners will then travel down to Myrtle Beach, S.C., for a pair of neutral site games against Alfred University on Wednesday, March 9, and Emmanuel College (Mass.) on Friday, March 11. Those two games will be played at Myrtle Beach High School.

The home opener, which is the first game of a four-game homestand, is scheduled for Wednesday, March 16, against Concordia College (Wisc.). Merchant Marine will be right back at it less than 24 hours later when they host future Skyline Conference opponent Mount St. Vincent at Brooks Stadium on St. Patrick's Day, March 17.

The homestand continues with a mid-week, non-conference matchup against Manhattanville on Wednesday, March 23. The first Landmark contest of the season will be held on Saturday, March 26, against Goucher at Brooks Stadium.

The squad will hit the road for two straight games the next week, travelling up to Danbury, Conn., for a non-conference tilt against Western Connecticut State on Tuesday, March 29, and then playing its first game in April at Landmark foe Elizabethtown on Saturday, April 2.

The Mariners will look to capture their eight-straight Hagedorn Cup the following Wednesday, April 6, when they host cross-river rival SUNY Maritime College. USMMA will then host Drew on Saturday, April 9, in a conference showdown.

Over the next week and a half, the squad will be on a three-game road swing, as they'll play back-to-back Landmark games on consecutive Saturdays, starting with an April 16 contest at Scranton followed by an April 23 tilt at Catholic. The final road game of the year will be a non-conference game at Mitchell College on Tuesday, April 26.

Senior Day for the Mariners will be held prior to the final regular season game of the year on April 30 when the Mariners host Landmark opponent Susquehanna.

The top four teams in the Landmark standings at the end of the season qualify for the Landmark Tournament. Semifinal games are scheduled for Wednesday, May 4, while the championship game will be held on Saturday, May 7. All Landmark Tournament games will be hosted by the higher seeds.

The 2016 Landmark Champions will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships, which are set to begin on Wednesday, May 11. The National Tournament will conclude in late May.

Early last week, the Mariners were picked to finish seventh in the league by the head coaches in the Landmark Preseason Coaches' Poll.

Every USMMA home game will feature live stats, as well as a live video feed via the USMMA Sports Network. Live links for all games throughout the season, if available, can be found on the USMMA men's lacrosse schedule page.
